Three Indian DPSUs Get Miniratna Status

In a major step toward enhancing the operational autonomy and efficiency of Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has approved the conferral of Miniratna Category-I status to three leading DPSUs. The move is seen as a significant push towards achieving greater self-reliance and innovation in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.

While the names of the three DPSUs granted Miniratna status were not officially disclosed at the time of announcement, sources indicate they were selected based on sustained profitability, operational performance, and strategic importance to the defence sector.

Miniratna status allows public sector enterprises to make capital investments up to ₹500 crore without prior government approval, thereby improving their decision-making flexibility. This recognition also opens avenues for faster project execution and increased global competitiveness.

The announcement was made following a high-level performance review meeting of all DPSUs, where the Defence Minister emphasized the importance of research & development, timely delivery of defence equipment, and alignment with the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
