Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, performed the Bhumi Pujan for two coal gasification projects in Maharashtra, marking a significant step towards promoting cleaner and more efficient utilization of coal resources.
The projects, undertaken under the aegis of Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries, aim to convert coal into synthesis gas (syngas), which can be used for producing chemicals, fertilizers, and cleaner fuels. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision to enhance value addition in the coal sector and reduce dependence on imports.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized the importance of coal gasification as a key component of India’s energy transition strategy, highlighting its potential to support sustainable industrial growth while reducing environmental impact.
The projects are expected to boost local economic development, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the nation’s goal of achieving greater energy security through innovative and eco-friendly technologies.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Coal and concerned organizations were present during the ceremony.
